Speaking progress after 1 week of Russian challenge

Dorian, Benjamin, and Aurélie have finished their first week of the 3-month challenge. It was a very intensive week. Learning Russian every day. Now we can check their progress.

What do you think? Who is your favorite? Leave a comment!

Will they have a conversation with a Russian native speaker who does not speak English in 3 months?

What did they do?
They started with the alphabet and learned how to read Cyrillic. After that, they learned their first phrases. This means that they were ready to practice with a tutor on their third day. The three participants continued to acquire new words and also touched on some grammar.

When can you start to speak?

The short answer is: whenever you want. Do not believe opinions such as “You need to learn 1 month on your own before it makes sense to practice with a tutor”. Of course, you cannot expect to have a fluent chat with a tutor on your third day of learning Russian. It is more than fine to stammer, use English words, or not finishing a sentence. You will not believe how few words you need if you use your hand and feet to communicate. The bottom line is that you must accept the feeling of discomfort and enjoy making mistakes.
